The Ronin-S is a great gimbal to use for the Canon EOS R but it can get heavy carrying around all day. We tried out the Glide Gear DNA 6000 to get a Steadicam-style effect with the Ronin-S and were able to wear it for over 2 hours, making our Cinematographer very happy. Check out our video to see how to turn your Ronin-S into a Steadicam with Glide Gear.
The Glide Gear DNA 6000 is less bulky than a traditional Steadicam rig, making it perfect for using a smaller camera setup, such as with the Ronin-S and Canon EOS R or other smaller cameras.
As shown in one of our previous videos, the EOS R has great autofocus and motion tracking which made it ideal to use on a Steadicam-style rig.
For lens, we used a Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II for our wider shots and a Canon EF 50mm F/1.2L to test the autofocus on tighter shots. We even shot at a 1.2 aperture to see how well it tracked with shallow depth of field.
The Glide Gear is relatively inexpensive at $350 – $400 dollars at most online retailers, and it really is a great tool to have if you’re running a Ronin-S or other one-handed gimbals. The extra comfort of running our gimbal with it really made a big difference in how long we were able to operate without taking a break.
